About the Optitex for Fashion Design course

Optitex is a fashion and apparel CAD solution used by garment manufacturers, export houses and brands for pattern design, grading, marker making and 3D virtual sampling. In the apparel industry it helps teams draft and correct patterns digitally, grade them into a full size range, plan fabric-saving markers for cutting and preview garments in 3D before a physical sample is sewn.

This 60-hour Optitex course follows the production workflow of a garment factory. You start with the pattern design environment, draw and modify blocks, add darts, pleats, notches and seam allowance, then digitise paper patterns, create grading rules and generate size sets. You then plan markers and check efficiency, and finish with an introduction to 3D: stitching patterns onto an avatar to check fit and drape. Training is hands-on, in the classroom at CADD centres or in live online classes.

Optitex skills support roles such as CAD pattern maker, grading and marker technician and sampling coordinator in apparel and export companies. Fashion students can continue with Marvelous Designer or TukaCAD to widen their CAD skills.

You will be able to

  • Navigate the Optitex pattern design environment and tools
  • Draft and modify basic blocks for tops, skirts and trousers
  • Add darts, pleats, notches, drill holes and seam allowance
  • Digitise paper patterns into the software
  • Create grading rules and generate a complete size set
  • Plan efficient markers for cutting and check fabric utilisation
  • Check fit and drape using Optitex 3D virtual samples

Who it is for
